Regina Newly- Regina is Samantha’s mom. She is also one of them who want to take advantage of Samantha’s amnesia. She wants to renew her relationship with her daughter, as they were not in touch with each other before Sam’s slipping into coma. She too has a negative shade in her personality like Samantha.

Life and Career- She is a multi Emmy Awards winning American actress. She has worked in many TV series, movies and stage plays. She is best recognized for her comedy role in “Designing Women”. Aside from this, she is also known for her roles as Martha Logan in “24” and as Regina Newly in “Samantha Who?” Her role in “Samantha Who?” got her an Emmy Award in 2008.

She has graduated from ballad High School in Seattle. After graduation she started working in the regional theatre and off-Broadway in mid 70s. Her Broadway debut was with Play “Piaf” in 1981. She earned a Drama Desk Award nomination for her acting in off Broadway play “Last Summer at Bluefish Cove”. She has guest starred in various TV series, but her big break was with “Designing Women” in 1986. During 90s, she started working in TV movies. The popular one was “Overkill: The Alieen Wuornos Story” in 1992. In 1990s she appeared in various TV series and movies.

In 2000, she landed in a hit show “Frasier”. She won two Emmy Awards for this comedy series. In 2001, she again bagged a nomination, in Tony Awards for “Man Who came to Dinner”. She also did voice over in “The Oblongs” for character Pickles Oblong. She has also voiced Dr. Anne Possible in animation “Kim Possible”. In 2006, she became part of “24” as the First Lady of United States, Martha Logan. She bagged Emmy nominations for the same in 2006 and 2007.

She is married to actor Richard Gilliland and they are blessed with a son. Smart has also joined campaigns of Barack Obama and John Edwards. Her upcoming project is “Youth in Revolt”.
